Solid oak floor sanding Skipton and Harrogate
Floor sanding and restoration
in Skipton Ilkley and Harrogate
This solid oak floor, which had been laid over 20 years ago, was definitely in need of a new lease of life. Our job was to sand it back to bare oak, restoring it and preparing it for the next 20 years of use. Using our professional equipment, we ensure every sanding job is done with full dust extraction, guaranteeing a clean and dust-free process.
We started by removing the bulk of the existing lacquer with our belt sander at 40 grit, and then followed up with a larger orbital sander to finish the floor. The orbital sander is particularly effective on oak, as it’s less aggressive on the wood, allowing us to achieve a smoother finish without damaging the grain. We then sanded the floor through to 100 grit, leaving enough texture for the hard wax oil to properly absorb and cure, providing a long-lasting finish.
For this particular floor, we applied two coats of Osmo Satin Clear Hard Wax Oil, allowing each coat to dry overnight for the best results. From the initial sanding to the final coat of wax, the entire process takes around three days, including drying time. This ensures that the floor not only looks beautiful but also offers a durable, protective finish that will last for years.
As with all our floor sanding projects, our priority is always a clean, efficient job with a perfect finish, and this solid oak floor turned out beautifully.
