This dining room in Skipton was left in a sorry state after a burst pipe in the upstairs bathroom caused significant damage. The ceiling had fallen through, and the original oak flooring had swollen beyond repair. Our customers decided to claim on their home insurance, and we were brought in as the contractors to restore the room to its former glory.
After the emergency call-out to fix the burst pipe, we set about repairing the ceiling and plastering it back to a smooth finish. Once the ceiling was sorted, we carefully removed the damaged oak floor. Time was given for the subfloor to dry thoroughly before we proceeded with laying the new flooring. As always, we chose British Hardwoods engineered oak for its quality and durability—it’s the best on the market and ideal for a high-end restoration like this.
The room itself posed a bit of a challenge due to its trapezoid shape, with the window end being nearly 150mm wider than the opposite wall. We took extra care in determining the centre of the room, then worked back from this point to ensure the floor was laid straight, with the focal view of the room directed towards the window.
Once the floor was laid, the room was decorated by Rob at Prestige Paper Hanging, based in Skipton. I have to admit, wallpapering isn’t my forte, so I was glad to leave that part to Rob. He did an excellent job, and you could tell he took great pride in his work. I look forward to collaborating with him again on future projects.
