Skipton Coffee Bar Counter

New coffee and snack bar opening in Skipton.

The Cozy Cuppas new bar made by us.

I always love taking on projects that are as unique and individual as our customers’ needs, and this one was no exception. We recently completed a bespoke joinery project for a new business venture in Skipton—The Cozy Cuppa, opening in February 2024. Nigel and Daz approached me with the vision of creating something truly special, leaving the creative direction and ideas in my hands. It was an exciting challenge, and I was thrilled to bring it to life.

For this project, I had been drying out some beautiful oak sleepers for a couple of years, and I felt it was the perfect opportunity to incorporate them into the design. The oak posts were given large stop chamfers for a more striking look, and everything— from the posts to the frames— was finished in Mylands Black Wax, which added a rich, natural finish to the wood. To provide contrast and make the oak stand out, we used Black Valchromat as a background, offering a simple but bold look.

To give the counter a truly unique character, I sourced old textile cogs from a working mill. These were incorporated into the design to evoke the feel of reclaimed parts from a traditional textile mill. It was an interesting touch that added both history and personality to the space.

The finishing touch was a stunning black granite worktop, installed by our friends at Select Worktops in Keighley, who always do a fantastic job. On the reverse of the bar, we used Birch plywood cabinets with adjustable shelving for the snack bar, providing both functionality and style. To separate the working areas, we created a matching dividing wall at the back of the shop, complete with hygiene boards for practical use.

This was such an enjoyable project to work on, and it’s fantastic to see it all come together in situ. I wish Nigel and Daz the best of luck with The Cozy Cuppa—I’m sure it’s going to be a huge success, and we’ll be back for a coffee as soon as you open!

If you’ve got a project in mind and need some creative ideas, don’t hesitate to give me a call. I’d love to chat about our bespoke joinery services and how we can bring your vision to life.
