Solid Oak canopy
Solid Oak canopy
Made to Building regulations
This recent project, installed in Clivager, involved creating a solid oak canopy for a Grade 2 listed building, in strict accordance with building regulations. Once the architects had finalized the plans, we set about designing the canopy to fit precisely within the provided guidelines, ensuring it was both functional and in keeping with the property’s historic character. The canopy was designed to reflect a previous installation, maintaining a consistent aesthetic while respecting the building’s heritage.
The main structure of the canopy was crafted from green oak sleepers, which were used for their durability and natural beauty. The seasoned A-frame design, complete with a curved fan, was carefully constructed to suit the doorway and provide an elegant yet robust addition to the property. Over time, the oak will naturally weather, helping the canopy blend seamlessly with its surroundings, making it look like it has been part of the building for years.
Dwarf walls were built to support the structure, and the slating was matched to the existing roof, ensuring a harmonious integration with the rest of the building. The oak was finished with an exterior Osmo oil, which includes UV protection, preserving the wood’s rich colour and ensuring long-lasting durability in the elements.
This was a truly enjoyable project to work on, and seeing it installed in its final position was incredibly satisfying.
